The Latest Spider-Man: Homecoming Poster Is A Major Improvement Over That Photoshop Mess

Homecoming : While each new installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is exciting, Spider-Man: Homecoming seems to be on another level of entirety. Marvel fans are thrilled to see Peter Parker join the shared universe; and after seeing how utterly fantastic Tom Holland’s version of the character was in Captain America: Civil War, anticipation is at an all time high. While the early trailers for the film have been delightful, the most recent theatrical poster went viral for how god awful and poorly photoshopped it was. Luckily for us, Homecoming has released yet another poster, and it’s about 100 percent better than that last snafu. Check it out.

This latest Spider-Man: Homecoming poster comes to us from artist Matt Ferguson. Ferguson has done a fair amount of work for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including a variety of concept art for previous films. This time his contribution is a simple but effective poster for Spider-Man’s first movie in the universe. In it we’re once again given the backdrop of New York City, which seems like it might be more of a character than simply a setting in the upcoming film. With Avengers Tower in the background, we see both Spider-Man and Iron Man traveling toward an unknown conflict. And while Tony Stark takes to the skies through his suit, Spidey is seen swinging from the buildings- his most classic form of transportation.

The new poster is in stark transition to the most recent Spider-Man: Homecoming poster. Rather than illustrating what the overall feeling of the film will be, the folks at Marvel settled in for a photoshop mess that featured the majority of the film’s cast. In fact, the main trio of Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr., and Michael Keaton are featured on the poster TWICE- once in costume, and once with just their faces. That’s how crowded the damn thing is, and why fans have crafted viral memes about the epic fail.

But despite weird poster choices, it seems like Spider-Man: Homecoming doesn’t have much to worry about regarding box office performance. It’s opening weekend is currently being estimated at a whopping $100 million, so a few bad posters isn’t going to stop anyone from shelling out cash for a seat in the theater. Spider-Man is one of the most popular Marvel characters of all time, so there are plenty of casual audience members and Marvel fans that will likely take their first venture into the MCU with Homecoming.

Additionally, the inclusion of MCU favorites like Tony Stark and Happy Hogan will serve a payoff for the hardcore fans of the shared universe, validating the moviegoers who have spent nearly 10 years catching each MCU installment in theaters.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will swing into theaters on July 7, 2017. Be sure to check our full 2017 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
