Meet Kavita Devi – The First Indian Woman To Sign A WWE Contract!
Former powerlifter Kavita Devi is all set to become the first Indian woman to sign a WWE contract. She is a South Asian Games gold medallist. She competed in the women’s 75 kg category.
World Wrestling Entertainment (or WWE as it is popularly known), announced in a press release that Kavita Devi was set to become the first ever Indian woman to set foot in a WWE ring. Kavita Devi has been selected to compete in the Mae Young Classic which is the first-ever WWE tournament for women.
Kavita Devi has learnt professional wrestling under former WWE superstar The Great Khali, at his Punjab based wrestling academy. Kavita gave her trials in Dubai, where the WWE was scouting for selected. Her size and incredible athleticism made WWE officials take notice of her potential, and signed her up.
She is set to compete in the Mae Young Classic tournament, which is the first-ever all women tournament in WWE. The event will take place Thursday, July 13 and Friday, July 14 from Full Sail Live in Orlando, Florida. 32 women will compete in the tournament, in all.

She is an athletic and extremely strong woman who demonstrated a solid grasp of the fundamentals of sports entertainment, and a passion to improve that will serve her well in WWE’s upcoming Mae Young Classic tournament.”
Haryana born Kavita said, “I am honoured to be the first Indian woman to compete in WWE’s first ever women’s tournament. I hope to use this platform to inspire other Indian women with my performance and make India proud”.
