Class of 1999 Graduates to Blu-Ray
The Class of 1999 will be available as a correspondence course starting at the end of January.
Graduates : There was a serious slacker problem in Seattle in 1990. Education was obviously failing and the youth was about to go grunge. PSAT scores were plummeting. Science fact held much less appeal than science fiction. Producer-Director Mark L. Lester figured by the end of the decade things would only get worse. Screenwriter C. Courtney Joyner wrote new rules, and they employed MegaTech-made Cyber-Teachers from Hell to get those grades up. The result was the sci-fi thriller Class of 1999. Vestron Video Collector’s Series is releasing a home-school edition of the ultimate teaching machine on limited edition Blu-ray on January 30 from Lionsgate.
“The time is the future, and youth gang violence is so high that the areas around some schools have become “free fire zones” into which not even the police will venture,” reads the official synopsis.
“When Miles Langford (Malcolm McDowell), the principal of Kennedy High School, decides to take his school back from the gangs, robotics specialist Dr. Robert Forrest (Stacy Keach) provides ‘tactical education units.’ These human-like androids have been programmed to teach and are supplied with weapons to handle discipline problems. These kids will get a lesson in staying alive!”
Class of 1999 also stars Pam Grier of Jackie Brown, Coffy, Scream Blacula Scream and Foxy Brown as Miss Connors, and Traci Lind as Christie Langford.
The Class of 1999 special edition will include special features previously unavailable from the Department of Education Defense. This includes audio commentary from the director, new rules from the writer and new methods of discipline for the kids from Director of Photography Mark Irwin. It also includes tips on “School Safety” from Lester and Co-Producer Eugene Mazzola.
Class of 1999 hits the streets Jan. 30, 2018.
