JAMES CAMERON IN EARLY TALKS WITH TIM MILLER TO REBOOT THE TERMINATOR
Well, I certainly didn’t see that coming. After the disappointing reception which TERMINATOR: GENISYS received, it seemed that the TERMINATOR franchise was finally buried once and for all, but, according to Deadline, none other than James Cameron himself will be bringing the character back from the dead.
James Cameron will regain certain rights to THE TERMINATOR in 2019, and the outlet reports that he will be “godfathering a new iteration of the film that might finally get it right in drawing a close in the battle between humans and Skynet.” As Cameron will be busy with the many AVATAR sequels for the next several years, he’s begun talking with Tim Miller (DEADPOOL) about directing a “reboot and conclusion” to the franchise. Which is it? Skydance CEO David Ellison still holds many rights to TERMINATOR, and he’ll be putting up the dough for an “exploratory effort that includes engaging some top-flight science fiction authors to find the movie creatively.” Following the release of TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY, Cameron had little involvement with the films which followed, beyond singing the praises of TERMINATOR: GENISYS for some reason, so having him back in the TERMINATOR universe once again is fairly exciting, even if he won’t be directing.
It’s much too early to jump to any conclusions, and Deadline isn’t sure whether the project will be a total reboot or a continuation of T2, but this is sure to get TERMINATOR fans talking about a possible return to form for the franchise.
It looks like The Terminator will be back! In 2019 director James Cameron will get certain rights to The Terminator back, and he’s in talks with Deadpool director Tim Miller to help him develop another movie! The news comes from Deadline, who says:
Sources said that Cameron, whose copyright reversion happens 35 years after the release of the 1984 classic, is in early talks with Deadpool director and VFX wiz Tim Miller to direct a reboot and conclusion of one of cinema’s great science fiction tales.
Cameron hasn’t really had his hand in any of the Terminator films since Terminator 2: Judgment Day. He did offer some kind of advice and service to Terminator Genisys, but he wasn’t credited for that help. Regardless, the fact that he’s got something brewing for a new chapter is extremely exciting! With Cameron leading the charge on this new film there’s a chance fans might actually see another great Terminator movie!
It’s also awesome that Miller could possibly come on board to develop and direct the film under Cameron’s guidance. Fans loved what he did with Deadpool, and I’m sure he will bring that level of greatness to Terminator!
There are no other details regarding any kind of plot or if Arnold Schwarzenegger will be involved, but it’s definitely something to look forward to!
